Group representing Oregon marijuana growers expands to include other parts of industry

A political action committee representing marijuana growers and processors says its expanding to include medical marijuana dispensaries.

The Oregon Growers PAC, formed last year by Portland lawyer Amy Margolis, will change its name to Oregon Cannabis PAC. The group has hired lobbyists Geoff Sugerman and State Street Solutions.

“What we have found is that our interests overlap in so many areas that it just made sense to open our doors and invite everyone into the group,” Margolis wrote in an email announcing the name change. “We are working to ensure all sectors of this new industry stand on equal footing as we move forward, and that all of us have an equal chance at succeeding in this new industry.”

The group has more than 40 members and is one of two cannabis growers’ associations lobbying lawmakers on marijuana-related matters. The other, the Oregon Sungrown Growers Guild, represents outdoor growers in southern Oregon.
