EUGENE — A Eugene man accused of not filing a tax return in 1984 when he made money from illegal pot sales has been sentenced to nine months in prison.
The Register-Guard reports that Jackie Pieter Boer was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Des Moines, Iowa. He pleaded guilty in September to one count of failing to file a tax return.
Boer was living in Iowa when he was indicted in 1989 on charges of tax evasion and conspiracy to manufacture marijuana. Authorities allege he and his wife made nearly $ 93,000 in illegal marijuana sales in 1984 but didn’t file a return.
He was living as a fugitive in Eugene until 2013 when his lawyer contacted prosecutors to tell them Boer wanted to plead guilty to the tax charge.
